How do you get your home movies to look like dvd's when your done editing them?

I would like to know how I can make my home movies that I shoot on my camcorder look like a movie on dvd. What do the editors use to give it that look. I have searched the web and can find no secret or hint or what plug in to use or filter or whatever. I just want my camcorder movies to have that DVD quality softness to it. Any help would be great.
