Is it too late start a career in air traffic control through the Air Force at the age of 23?

I read that you have to do a 6 year term with the air force to be a ATC but to apply for FAA you have to be under 31. Is this correct? I am planning on getting a civilian job after my 6 years so I will be 29 and I was not sure if I was cutting it close.
