Is it bad to spoil a dog? (read on)?

I just got my puppy and i don't want to have him in a cage all the time..he hasn't been in the cage at all since i got him. i got him 3 days ago and he is 5 months old. he was sitting in a tiny cage at a pet store for 3 months. (i know, it's torture.) i felt so bad for him, i had to get him. i carry him around everywhere. he is a shetland sheepdog. is this a bad thing? he even sleeps in the bed with me..
