Why do Christians snub people who can't afford to tithe?

I did not know that embling with other believers required you to be wealthy. If you cannot accept people without enough money to tithe then you should just tell them that they are not welcome instead of treating them like inferior garbage. I have seen this firsthand in many churches so don't tell me it does not happen.
