swallowing air doesn't cause gas, it makes burps. gas comes from bacteria in your large intestine, especially when you're lactose intolerant, because the lactose in food isn't digested until it hits the large intestine, which the bacteria feed off of like crazy, multiply like rabbits, and make gas, which make farts. Swallowing air makes you burp, the air doesn't go farther than the stomach
